A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for much of northern Lower Michigan, remaining in effect until 2 a.m. on Tuesday. This alert covers numerous counties across the region, as well as portions of Lakes Michigan, Huron, and Superior. Residents are advised to prepare for dangerous weather conditions overnight.
Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected to move southeast from Upper Michigan and northern Wisconsin into northern Lower Michigan. The primary concerns are damaging straight-line winds strong enough to cause power outages and damage buildings, large hail up to 2 inches in diameter, and isolated tornadoes. The watch means conditions are favorable for severe weather, and warnings may be issued as storms develop.
