Parts of North Jersey experienced torrential rainfall on July 21, as slow-moving thunderstorms brought heavy downpours and localized flooding. North Haledon reported the highest rainfall total, with 3.84 inches recorded by local observer Bob Ziff. Other communities also saw significant accumulation, including Sparta with 3.40 inches and Paterson with 2.71 inches.
Bergenfield notably set a new daily rainfall record, recording 1.75 inches and breaking the previous record of 1.48 inches from 2009. The National Weather Service confirmed widespread heavy rainfall across Bergen, Essex, and Passaic counties. Montclair in Essex County received 3.56 inches, while Wayne in Passaic County measured up to 3.29 inches. The intense weather prompted concerns about flash flooding throughout the northern part of the state.
