10 Aug
Summary
- Severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts are forecast for Monday afternoon and evening.
- Much of New Jersey faces a slight risk, level 2 of 5, for severe storms.
- High temperatures will reach the upper 80s to mid-90s, with a heat advisory in effect.

New Jersey residents should prepare for severe thunderstorms expected to impact the state on Monday afternoon and evening. These fast-moving storms carry the potential for damaging wind gusts, heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and hail, with an isolated tornado also being a possibility.
The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded most of New Jersey to a slight risk, level 2 out of 5, for severe weather. While the storms may organize into lines, decreasing the chance of flash flooding, the primary threat remains strong winds.
This severe weather threat follows another hot and humid day, with temperatures reaching the upper 80s to mid-90s. A heat advisory is in effect for northeastern counties until 7 p.m. due to heat index values potentially reaching 95 to 100 degrees.
Looking ahead, Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be slightly cooler, with highs in the mid-80s to near 90 degrees and a continued chance of showers and thunderstorms, though the severe threat is lower. A cold front approaching by late Thursday promises a significant shift towards more pleasant conditions for Friday and Saturday, with highs in the low to mid-80s and noticeably lower humidity.
