Storm Alert: New Tropical System Could Form Thursday

A tropical wave is being closely monitored by the National Hurricane Center, with odds of its development into a tropical depression or storm rising to 90% as of Thursday morning. This potential storm, which would be named Dolly, faces a slim window for strengthening, expected to last only until Friday.

Meteorologists, like Noah Bergren of Fox35 Orlando, have highlighted that certain areas, including Florida, the Bahamas, and the Southwestern Atlantic, are among the few locations in the current Atlantic season that offer somewhat favorable conditions for tropical development. Despite challenging environmental factors, some long-range computer models suggest the system could evolve into a tropical storm.

If the system strengthens as predicted, it is not expected to be near the Caribbean until early next week. Subsequently, any impact on Florida is anticipated mid-to-late next week. Bergren indicated that while he is not yet concerned due to the system's distance, storms that track further south tend to have a better chance of sustained development.
