New Storm Brews After Arnab Weakens Over Bay of Bengal
30 Oct
Summary
- Cyclone Arnab has weakened into a low-pressure area.
- A new weather system is forming over the Andaman Sea.
- This new system has an 80% chance of becoming a depression.
Following the weakening of severe cyclonic storm 'Arnab' into a low-pressure area, Kolkata experienced light rain on Thursday. The city anticipates relief from its impact by Friday afternoon, with a reduction in effects for south Bengal, though north Bengal may face heavy rainfall.
A new weather system has been identified over the Andaman Sea, adjoining the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This system shows a significant 80% chance of condensing into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours. Its potential intensification into another cyclonic storm is yet to be determined by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Weathermen suggest that factors such as sea surface temperature and the system's speed might prevent it from developing into a full-fledged cyclonic storm. The extent of its influence on Bengal's weather will depend on the low-pressure's path and speed. The maximum temperature in Kolkata dropped to 28.2° Celsius, 2.7° Celsius below normal.
