Cyclone Arnab Brings Rare October Rain to Mumbai
29 Oct
Summary
- Light rain and thunderstorms expected in Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar.
- Raigad and Ratnagiri districts are under a yellow alert.
- Rainfall is predicted to lower temperatures and improve air quality.

Mumbai and its surrounding areas, including Thane and Palghar, are anticipated to receive light rainfall and experience thunderstorms from Thursday, October 29. This weather shift is attributed to Cyclone Arnab, which has moved towards the western coast after making landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast on October 28.
While no official warnings have been issued for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Raigad and Ratnagiri districts on a yellow alert, indicating potential thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Meteorologists suggest that the cyclone's influence will bring cloud cover and isolated rain spells to Maharashtra.
This forthcoming rain activity is predicted to be short-lived but beneficial, potentially lowering daytime temperatures from the current highs of 36-37 degrees Celsius to around 33 degrees between Thursday and Saturday. Furthermore, the showers could aid in improving the city's air quality by suppressing suspended pollutants.
