Mumbai and its neighboring districts of Thane and Palghar are currently experiencing significant disruption caused by heavy rainfall and strong, gusty winds. Several areas within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, including Borivli, Andheri, and Bandra, have seen intense rain spells. Notably, Vasai, Virar, and Palghar in northern MMR recorded rainfall rates as high as 60 mm per hour.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Palghar and Raigad districts, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall and winds gusting up to 70 kmph. A yellow alert is in place for Mumbai and Thane, anticipating heavy rainfall at isolated spots and similar wind conditions. Consequently, the Palghar district administration has declared a holiday for schools in the region.
Private forecaster AccuWeather also placed Mumbai under an orange alert, predicting cloudy and breezy conditions with morning showers. Temperatures are expected to hover around 29 degrees Celsius for the maximum and 27 degrees Celsius for the minimum. Residents, especially in low-lying areas, are urged to remain vigilant, heed official advisories, and limit travel during intense rainfall and high winds.
