Monsoon Mayhem Disrupts Maharashtra's Bus and Rail Services
29 Sep, 2025
Summary
- Heavy rains impact MSRTC bus services, especially to Marathwada region
- Buses delayed or cancelled due to flooded roads and bridges
- Trains also diverted due to waterlogging on tracks
- Commuters face difficulties reaching airports and other destinations

As of September 29th, 2025, heavy rains have been causing significant disruptions to Maharashtra's public transportation network, particularly the bus services operated by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC).
The Marathwada region, which has been experiencing heavy showers, has been the most affected area. On the previous day, many MSRTC buses from places like Barshi, Jamkhed, and Dharashiv were either running late or had to be cancelled due to the intense rainfall. The divisional controller of MSRTC in Pune, Arun Siya, explained that the bus traffic on other routes remained normal, but the flow from the weather-hit areas was severely impacted.
The main reason for the delays and cancellations is the inundation of numerous bridges, both big and small, along the bus routes. This has forced the buses to take diversions, leading to significant delays in their schedules. Some buses from Shivajinagar to Beed were also cancelled due to the road closure caused by water accumulation between Kurduwadi and Barshi.
The situation has also affected rail services, with six trains being diverted mainly due to waterlogging at a rail track in Gangakhed under the Nanded rail division. These include popular trains like the Sai Nagar Shirdi-Secunderabad Express and the Panvel-Hazur Sahib Nanded Express.
The disruptions have caused significant inconvenience for commuters, with passenger traffic on most of the affected routes dropping by almost 50%. Some travelers, like Shankar Patge from Camp, had to cancel their plans to travel to Mumbai due to the heavy rains in the city and the ghat section.
The authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have asked the drivers to exercise caution. They are hopeful that the operations will return to normal once the water levels affecting the bridges subside. However, with the continuous rainfall, the future remains uncertain.
