Olympic Opening Ceremony: Rain to Clear for Milan Spectators
4 Feb
Summary
- Milan's Olympic opening ceremony on Friday will have dry weather.
- Persistent heavy showers in northern Italy are expected to ease.
- Cortina d'Ampezzo will also see gradual weather improvement.

Milan's iconic San Siro stadium is set to host the Olympic opening ceremony this Friday under clearing skies. Italy's air force meteorological service has forecast a much-needed respite from the persistent heavy showers that have affected northern Italy for days. Colonel Guido Guidi of the Italian Aeronautica Militare (Air Force) confirmed that while some rain may occur in the preceding hours, Friday evening promises dry weather with clearing conditions.
Co-host Cortina d'Ampezzo, nestled in the Dolomites, also expects gradual weather improvement. Although the day may remain overcast and moist, no snow or rain is predicted for the ceremony itself. Looking ahead to the Winter Games from February 6 to 22, competitions across five Alpine provinces are anticipated to have relatively stable conditions. Athletes and spectators can expect intermittent sunshine, some clouds, and a slight chance of light precipitation around Wednesday of the first competition week.
