Michigan Braces for 100° Heat and Severe Storm Threat
9 Jun
Summary
- Southeast Michigan faces high heat and humidity for days.
- Heat index values could reach 100 degrees or greater.
- Severe thunderstorms are possible, with damaging winds a concern.

Southeast Michigan is under a NEXT Weather Alert for Wednesday and Thursday due to a combination of extreme heat and the potential for severe weather. Residents should prepare for dangerous conditions as afternoon temperatures are predicted to climb into the lower and middle 90s.
With dew points expected to be in the upper 60s and lower 70s, the heat index may reach or exceed 100 degrees. These conditions are most hazardous during the afternoon and early evening hours when the heat and humidity peak.
The region also faces an increasing risk of severe thunderstorms, especially on Thursday. A strong weather system moving into the Great Lakes is expected to fuel storms. The primary threat from these storms will be damaging wind gusts. However, the atmosphere could also support large hail and, in isolated instances, even a tornado.
