Southeast Michigan Swelters Under Heat Advisory
10 Jun
Summary
- Upper 80s to lower 90s temps expected with heat index up to 102.
- Cooling centers open in Farmington Hills, Oak Park, and Pontiac.
- Severe thunderstorms possible Wednesday night and Thursday.

Much of Southeast Michigan is currently experiencing a heat advisory, with afternoon temperatures expected to reach the upper 80s and lower 90s. The heat index values are predicted to climb between 96 and 102.
To combat the extreme heat, several communities have opened cooling centers. Farmington Hills offers access at the Costick Activities Center and Fire Station 5. Oak Park's Community Center is also open, and Pontiac provides services at the Bowens and Ruth Peterson Senior Centers.
Looking ahead, the forecast indicates a risk of strong to severe thunderstorms approaching from the west on Wednesday night. While the severe threat might be lower than in areas further west, damaging winds and heavy rainfall are still possible.
Thursday is anticipated to bring continued heat and humidity, with temperatures near 90 and heat index values approaching 100. A stronger weather system moving into the Great Lakes region increases the concern for severe weather, including damaging winds, large hail, and a potential for tornadoes.
