Massachusetts Faces Dangerously High Heat

Massachusetts is set to experience "dangerously hot" conditions this week, with forecasts predicting heat index values that could reach up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. In response, Governor Maura Healey's administration issued crucial guidance on June 30 to help residents prepare for and stay safe during the extreme heat.

The state government is implementing various measures to support public safety. The Department of Public Health is offering community heat alerts and safety resources. Energy providers have been asked to suspend shut-offs for residential customers during this period. Recreational facilities like beaches and pools are being promoted as cooling centers.

Transportation services are also taking precautions. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation will monitor movable bridges for heat-related impacts. The MBTA stated that while service will continue, trains may operate at reduced speeds to manage heat stress on tracks. Passengers experiencing non-functional air conditioning on public transit are encouraged to report it.
