Maryland is currently under a winter storm watch, as heavy, powdery snow began falling Sunday morning. Forecasters anticipate accumulations exceeding six inches across the state, prompting the declaration of First Alert Weather Days for Sunday and Monday. Numerous school districts have announced closures due to the severe weather.
The First Alert Weather Team reported snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour, occurring while temperatures hovered in the teens. By mid- to late morning, a transition from snow to sleet and freezing rain is expected.
As of 7 a.m. Sunday, the Baltimore region had already recorded an average of four inches of snow, with BWI Airport measuring 4.1 inches. Snow totals continue to be updated as the storm progresses through the region.
