Maryland Braces for Severe Storms and Flooding

Maryland is preparing for severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, prompting a First Alert Weather Day on Tuesday. Tropical humidity will contribute to scorching heat, with actual temperatures in the upper 80s to lower 90s, and heat index values potentially reaching 100° by Tuesday afternoon.

Isolated to scattered severe storms are anticipated to develop after 2 p.m., potentially bringing damaging wind gusts of 60-75 mph, intense lightning, torrential downpours, and hail. A line of storms is most likely between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., increasing the chance of widespread wind damage and power outages. Lingering overnight storms could lead to street flooding.

An additional, less impactful round of storms is expected Wednesday, primarily south of Baltimore. A cold front will clear the area by late Wednesday, ushering in significantly lower humidity and more comfortable temperatures for Thursday and Friday, with highs in the low to mid-80s.

Humidity and temperatures will slightly increase by Sunday, with a possibility of storms. Later in the week, a northerly wind may bring hazy conditions to the mid-Atlantic, though current wildfire risks are low.
