26 May
Summary
- Vidarbha region records extreme heat with 47.6°C in Brahmapuri.
- Southwest monsoon expected to reach Kerala by the end of this week.
- Heatwave alerts issued for eastern Maharashtra districts.

Maharashtra is currently experiencing a stark contrast in weather as the southwest monsoon advances. The Vidarbha region is battling extreme heat, with Brahmapuri recording a high of 47.6 degrees Celsius on Monday. This heatwave has prompted authorities to issue red and orange alerts for several districts in eastern Maharashtra, including Amravati, Wardha, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli, for Tuesday and Wednesday. Residents are strongly advised to avoid afternoon outdoor activities and stay hydrated.
In contrast, other parts of Maharashtra, including Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra, are expecting rainfall as monsoon conditions become favorable. Meteorologists indicate the southwest monsoon is likely to arrive in Kerala by the end of this week and progress into various parts of the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. While this advance is expected to bring relief from the heat, Vidarbha may continue to face harsh summer conditions for a few more days.
