Maharashtra is under an extreme rainfall warning for Tuesday, July 7, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting isolated extremely heavy downpours over Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra. This follows a weekend of severe weather that caused landslides and a chawl collapse in Mumbai, resulting in six deaths. Mumbai has already experienced 60% above-normal rainfall since June 1, with Lonavala recording 67 cm in a 24-hour period.
A moderate flash flood risk has been declared for Mumbai, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Thane until Tuesday morning, extending to parts of Madhya Maharashtra as well. Surface runoff and inundation are likely in low-lying areas. Meanwhile, Gujarat and coastal Karnataka are also bracing for extremely heavy rainfall.
In Delhi, Tuesday is expected to bring two spells of rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and winds up to 50 kmph. The monsoon remains active over central India, with a depression moving northwestwards, bringing very heavy rainfall to Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh. The monsoon is also predicted to advance into parts of Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
