Maharashtra Monsoon Delayed: Heatwave Persists!
21 Jun
Summary
- Monsoon delayed in Maharashtra for 12 days, Pune by 10 days.
- South Maharashtra may see increased rainfall from June 22.
- El Nino effect is disrupting monsoon rains across the state.

The monsoon's arrival in Maharashtra has been significantly delayed, with the India Meteorological Department now forecasting its onset around June 23. This marks a delay of approximately 12 days for the state and 10 days for Pune. Southern Maharashtra might experience increased rainfall starting June 22.
The extended dry spell is critically impacting agricultural operations. Kharif cultivation, planned for 49 lakh hectares in Marathwada, has seen minimal sowing so far. This delay, attributed partly to the El Nino effect, has stalled the planting of essential crops like cotton, soybean, and tur.
While light rains and storms are predicted for Marathwada after June 22, the full impact on the monsoon's progress in July and August remains uncertain. Information regarding the latter half of the monsoon season will be available by the end of June.
Meanwhile, Delhi recorded a high of 39.1 degrees Celsius on Friday, with the weather department issuing a yellow alert for thunderstorms and gusty winds.
