Ludhiana Shivers as Temp Plummets Post-Rainfall
17 Mar
Summary
- Ludhiana's minimum temperature dropped by 5.3°C to 11.5°C.
- Yellow alert issued for Ludhiana with thunderstorms expected soon.
- Farmers advised to suspend operations and secure livestock.

Ludhiana witnessed a sharp decline in minimum temperatures on Monday, dropping by 5.3°C to settle at 11.5°C, offering relief from earlier warm conditions. This change is attributed to western disturbances affecting the region.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Ludhiana under a yellow alert. While clearer skies are expected Tuesday and Wednesday, another yellow alert is in effect for March 19 and 20, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, and winds of up to 40 kmph.
Weather experts are advising farmers to be vigilant. The IMD recommends temporarily suspending farming activities and securing livestock during periods of strong winds and lightning. Punjab Agricultural University scientists had predicted these mid-March weather shifts.
Earlier in March, temperatures were notably above normal, with daily highs often exceeding the seasonal average. Last Thursday, the maximum temperature reached 30.4°C, approximately 4.6°C above normal.
