A vigorous thundershower, accompanied by strong winds and lightning, struck Lucknow on Tuesday morning, ending a two-day period of unusually warm winter weather. The storm brought about 7mm of rainfall and some instances of hail in certain parts of the city. This significant shift in atmospheric conditions was attributed to a western disturbance influencing the Punjab and Haryana regions.
This weather system had previously blocked cold winds from the Himalayas, causing temperatures to rise. On Tuesday, the minimum temperature recorded was 14.5 degrees Celsius, considerably above normal, while the maximum temperature dropped to 20.4 degrees Celsius after the rainfall. Similar weather patterns were observed in other parts of Uttar Pradesh.
Meteorological forecasts indicate that the western disturbance's influence will diminish by Wednesday. This will allow for the return of cold winds from the hills, leading to a drop in minimum temperatures back to normal levels. The residual moisture in the atmosphere is expected to condense, resulting in moderate to dense fog in many areas, including Lucknow, during the mornings, with clear skies predicted for the daytime.
