U-Turn Traffic Rule Expands to Old City Lucknow
25 Jan
Summary
- U-turn traffic movement is now active from Rumi Gate to Kudiya Ghat.
- The new system aims to ease congestion on a busy old city route.
- Commuters who initially objected have appreciated the traffic changes.

The successful U-turn traffic movement strategy, previously implemented in Hazratganj, has now been extended to a critical section of Lucknow's old city. The new traffic arrangements cover the busy stretch from Rumi Gate to Kudiya Ghat, an area frequently experiencing severe congestion during peak hours.
Traffic originating from Teeli Wali Masjid heading towards Madeyganj will now be rerouted at Kudiya Ghat Crossing. Commuters will proceed via the New Pukka Bridge to reach their destinations. Conversely, vehicles approaching from the New Pukka Bridge will turn left at Kudiya Ghat Crossing to access Rumi Gate.
Vehicles coming from the Rashtra Prerna Sthal will proceed to Kudiya Ghat Crossing before continuing. Similarly, traffic moving from Rumi Gate towards Kudiya Ghat will take a left turn at the crossing, perform a U-turn at Gulala Ghat, and then proceed. This initiative follows its positive reception in Hazratganj, where initial public reservations transformed into appreciation after a week of implementation, as noted by DCP Traffic Kamlesh Dixit.
