12 Mar
Summary
- Las Vegas faces a heat wave with temperatures approaching daily records.
- The National Weather Service warns of hazardous conditions due to early-season heat.
- Safety tips include hydration, sun protection, and avoiding peak heat.

Las Vegas is anticipating a heat wave that could shatter daily temperature records between Thursday, March 12, and Monday, March 16, 2026. Unusually strong high pressure over the Southwestern U.S. is driving these elevated temperatures, with forecasts indicating highs in the mid-to-high 80s Fahrenheit.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Las Vegas is monitoring the situation closely. Temperatures on Thursday are expected to reach 83 F, Friday 86 F, Saturday 88 F, Sunday 85 F, and Monday 88 F, all nearing historical highs for these dates. The monthly record of 93 F, set on March 26, 2022, is also under threat.
In response to the approaching heat, the NWS has provided crucial safety advice. Residents are urged to drink plenty of water or electrolyte drinks, apply sunscreen, wear light-colored clothing, and limit outdoor activities during peak heat. Avoiding caffeine, alcohol, high-protein meals, and never leaving children or pets in vehicles are also emphasized.
Across the Southwest, numerous daily and some monthly temperature records are expected to be challenged or broken on Thursday and Friday. The NWS Weather Prediction Center warns that this early-season heat poses hazards for those without adequate cooling or hydration.
