A powerful heat dome has enveloped Southern California, causing temperatures to soar and shatter long-standing records, despite it being winter. On Tuesday, multiple locations experienced unprecedented heat.
Downtown Los Angeles reached 97 degrees, breaking a 1914 record. LAX recorded 92 degrees, surpassing its 1978 record. Long Beach hit 98 degrees, breaking a 1978 record, while Burbank registered 94 degrees, also beating a 1978 record. Woodland Hills experienced 100 degrees, a new record surpassing one from 2007.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass stated that this abnormal winter heat is a sign of climate change impacting the city. While temperatures are expected to remain high, reaching up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the risk of wildfires is currently low due to light winds.
