17 Apr
Summary
- Temple visiting hours changed due to extreme heat.
- Three devotees died from heat-related issues recently.
- New hours restrict access between 11 am and 4 pm.

In Koppal district, the Sri Anjaneyaswamy Temple at Anjanadri Hill has modified its visiting hours to protect devotees from severe heat. The decision, announced by Deputy Commissioner Suresh B Itnal, comes after recent fatalities. Three devotees have died in the past few months due to heat-related breathing difficulties after climbing the temple's 575 steps. Two were teenagers and one was 57 years old.
Specifically, a 57-year-old devotee from Davanagere district died on April 1, 2026, around 1 pm, collapsing inside the sanctum after climbing during the afternoon heat. To mitigate further risks during April and May, when the area experiences intense heat, climbing the temple steps will be prohibited between 11 am and 4 pm.
Devotees can now visit the temple only during the cooler parts of the day. Access to the temple steps for darshan will be permitted from 6 am to 11 am and again from 4 pm to 6 pm. This measure aims to prevent exhaustion and breathing difficulties among visitors climbing in sweltering conditions.
