Yellow Alert Issued for 9 Kerala Districts
8 Oct
Summary
- Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds expected to continue.
- A yellow alert is active for nine specific districts in Kerala.
- Weather systems triggering the storms include cyclonic circulation.

Parts of Keralam and Lakshadweep are bracing for continued thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the next few days. These weather phenomena are expected to persist until October 10, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The current weather pattern is influenced by an upper air cyclonic circulation situated over the south Keralam coast. This is further supported by a trough extending from the circulation to south interior Karnataka.
As a result, a yellow alert has been issued for Friday, October 9, 2026. The alert specifically warns of isolated heavy rainfall in nine districts: Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod. Residents can expect wind speeds to reach between 40-50 kmph during these thunderstorms.
