Kashmir has officially entered Chillai-Kalan, the most severe 40-day winter period, beginning Sunday. The summer capital, Srinagar, registered a minimum temperature of 4.0°C, while the hill station of Gulmarg recorded the lowest temperature at -2.4°C.
Cold conditions intensified across the valley, with sub-zero temperatures reported in many areas. Significant rainfall and snowfall accompanied the cold wave, with Bandipora receiving the highest rainfall at 23.5 mm. Higher elevations experienced substantial snowfall, with Gulmarg and Sonamarg receiving several inches.
The adverse weather conditions have led to disruptions in travel. Fresh snowfall impacted flight operations at Srinagar International Airport, resulting in the cancellation of two flights. Passengers have been advised to verify their flight statuses with airlines.
