Kanpur Swelters: Clouds Bring No Relief, High Humidity Persists
19 Jul
Summary
- Maximum temperature fell to 34.6°C with high humidity at 81%.
- Easterly winds offered little relief from sultry weather conditions.
- Rainfall expected in Kanpur division within the next 24 hours.
On Saturday, Kanpur experienced a day of intense heat mitigated by cloud cover, though high humidity maintained sultry conditions. The maximum temperature decreased to 34.6°C, a 1.6°C drop from the previous day, while the minimum temperature settled at 26.8°C. Despite these temperature shifts, humidity remained high at 81%, contributing to discomfort as moisture-laden air prevented sweat from evaporating.
Moderate easterly winds at 4.3 kmph provided minimal relief. Although the city was under persistent cloud cover for the past 24 hours, no rainfall was recorded. The India Meteorological Department has predicted that weather conditions will likely support rainfall across the Kanpur division, including Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Etawah, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, and Auraiya, within the next 24 hours. Forecasts indicate partly to generally cloudy skies with a possibility of scattered rain or light showers accompanied by thunderstorms.
Weather expert Dr. S.N. Sunil Pandey from Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology anticipates cloudy skies on July 19 and 20. He noted that isolated areas might experience light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds, thunderstorms, and lightning, particularly in the evenings. Rainfall chances are considered high for July 19 and 20, with light showers possible in isolated pockets on Sunday.
