Kanpur Drenched: Rain Brings Relief, Commuter Woes
19 Sep
Summary
- Kanpur experienced widespread rain, lowering temperatures and offering respite from heat.
- Commuters faced difficulties due to waterlogged roads and potholes after the downpour.
- Localized thunderstorms and gusty winds are predicted for the next three days.
Kanpur received light to moderate widespread rain on Saturday afternoon, which significantly lowered the temperature and provided relief to residents from hot and sultry weather. The temperature, recorded at 33.6°C earlier in the day, fell to around 31°C in the evening.
This temperature drop, while welcome, unfortunately exacerbated the woes of commuters. Rainwater accumulated on city roads, and numerous potholes and dug-up stretches created significant travel difficulties for residents navigating through various parts of Kanpur during the afternoon and evening.
According to weather experts, approximately 3 mm of rain was recorded, accompanied by westerly winds blowing at about 7.4 kmph. Looking ahead, localized thunderstorms, gusty winds, and light rain or drizzle are anticipated over the next three days due to cloud movement. Humidity is also expected to remain high during sunny periods. The India Meteorological Department had predicted a 65% to 70% chance of scattered thunderstorms for the afternoon, with clearer weather expected in the evening and at night. Sunday is forecasted to have bright sunshine during the day.
