Kanpur Nagar was drenched in monsoon rains on Monday, experiencing moderate to heavy showers that eased sultry conditions. The city recorded around 17.6mm of rainfall in the afternoon alone, with a total of 20.4mm received between Sunday morning and Monday morning.
The heavy rainfall exposed the Kanpur Municipal Corporation's shortcomings in drain and nullah cleaning, leading to reported waterlogging in several low-lying urban areas.
This rainfall brought a welcome drop in temperature, with the maximum falling to 27.6°C, a decrease of 4.4°C from the previous day's high. The minimum temperature settled at 25.2°C, accompanied by high humidity levels of 93% and 98% respectively.
Looking ahead, the India Meteorological Department forecasts active monsoon conditions to persist across the Kanpur division. From August 18 to August 21, residents can expect cloudy skies, intermittent strong winds, and light to moderate rain. Isolated areas may experience heavy showers with thunderstorms and lightning.
