Kanpur Swelters: Mercury Hits 41°C Amidst Soaring Humidity
20 Jun
Summary
- Maximum temperature in Kanpur reached 41 degrees Celsius.
- High humidity levels at 63% exacerbate the intense heat.
- Heatwave conditions are predicted to persist in the coming days.

Mercury levels have surged across the Kanpur division, with temperatures reaching 41 degrees Celsius in Kanpur Nagar and exceeding this mark at the Chakeri Air Force station. The minimum temperature also rose to 27.6 degrees Celsius, adding to residents' discomfort. High humidity, recorded at 63 percent, combined with slow north-westerly winds, failed to provide effective relief from the oppressive heat.
Weather conditions across all districts are expected to remain predominantly very hot and dry, with intense sunshine. Maximum temperatures are projected to stay between 39 and 41 degrees Celsius, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for prevailing heatwave conditions in the region.
According to weather experts, increased atmospheric moisture and humidity inflow, alongside cloud movement, might lead to isolated light drizzle or rain in some pockets of the Kanpur division. This could cause minor temperature fluctuations of one to two degrees Celsius. Residents are advised to avoid venturing outside between noon and 4 pm, stay hydrated, and cover their heads and faces when outdoors.
