Residents of Kanpur division should anticipate a significant rise in mercury levels on May 7 and May 8, according to the Indian Meteorological Department. Weather expert Sunil S. Pandey from CSA University predicts maximum temperatures ranging from 36°C to 38°C on May 7, with minimums between 22°C and 26°C. While the day will start clear, light clouds may develop in the afternoon or evening, bringing a 30-40% chance of light drizzle.
The heat is set to intensify further on May 8, with maximum temperatures expected to reach between 40°C and 41°C, and night temperatures between 24°C and 28°C. A continued upward trend could push mercury levels towards 43°C in the following days. Moderate easterly and northeasterly winds of 10-15 km/h are also anticipated.
On May 6, Kanpur recorded a maximum temperature of 33.6°C, significantly below normal. Despite this, afternoon traffic was thin due to the heat. The minimum temperature dropped to 19.4°C, offering cool nights. Humidity peaked at 84%, but north-westerly winds helped mitigate its impact.
Furthermore, the evening of May 7 may bring strong winds, accompanied by light showers, dust storms, and isolated hailstorms. These weather conditions could persist as long as sufficient atmospheric moisture is available.
