Jersey is preparing for a significant heatwave, with the Jersey Met issuing warnings of "very hot" daytime temperatures and "tropical nights." Daytime highs are forecast to reach 31C (88F) or more on Sunday and potentially exceed 34C (93F) on Monday.
During Sunday and Monday nights, the island can expect "tropical nights," meaning temperatures will not fall below 20C (68F). Public Health Jersey has advised residents to take precautions, including staying indoors during the hottest periods of the day and rescheduling strenuous activities for cooler times.
Residents are urged to drink ample water, avoid alcohol and coffee, and take cool baths or showers. Additional advice includes closing curtains to block heat, opening windows, using fans, wearing hats, light clothing, and applying sunscreen with at least SPF 30.
This forecast follows a recent period in May when Jersey experienced its first five-day stretch of temperatures at or above 30C, with a peak of 34.2C recorded on May 26th.
