Italy Braces for Freezing Rain and Snow Bursts

Italy is currently under the grip of a cold and severe weather system, with temperatures significantly below the seasonal average. This pattern is bringing widespread rain and snow. Central and southern Tyrrhenian regions will be particularly affected by a new low-pressure system, while the Alps are bracing for heavy snowfall.

The mountainous regions are expected to receive snow down to approximately 700-800 meters, with substantial accumulations anticipated in border areas. Simultaneously, the Northwest could experience freezing rain, a phenomenon where rain solidifies upon contact with surfaces. This unstable weather is forecast to continue into the week.

As the week progresses, a slight improvement is expected, but this will be accompanied by a surge of cold continental air from the north. This will cause a further, drastic drop in temperatures across the country, leading to freezing nighttime and early morning conditions, especially in inland locations and across the northern plains.
