Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is anticipated in East and Central India, specifically over West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh, driven by a depression tracking across the region. Northern India is also experiencing heavy rains due to multiple active systems. Coastal regions of West Bengal, Odisha, and North Andhra Pradesh are alerted to squally winds up to 65 km/h and flash flood risks, prompting warnings for fishermen.
The outlook for mid-August (August 13-19) suggests normal rainfall nationwide, with good showers expected in Central and East India. Late August (August 20-26) may see a new storm system bringing heavy rain to Central India, the Western Ghats, and northern mountain regions. Moderate El Nino conditions continue to influence monsoon patterns. Advisories have been issued to farmers regarding crop protection and drainage, and to livestock owners for shelter during storms.
