The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert, warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across several Indian states including Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
States such as Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh are expected to experience heavy downpours on May 5th. The weather office has also forecast isolated to scattered thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds reaching 40-60 kmph, and hailstorm activity over Northwest, Central, and East India.
Safety protocols are strongly advised for residents in these vulnerable areas. Furthermore, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi can anticipate light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds from May 5th to 6th, and again on May 10th. West Uttar Pradesh is also expected to see similar conditions on May 5th and 6th.
Maharashtra is projected to see a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C over the next three days. In contrast, Delhi is expected to experience a drop in maximum temperatures by 3-5°C within 24 hours, followed by a rise of 5-7°C thereafter. Delhi's maximum temperatures are expected to be significantly below normal, settling between 31°C and 33°C, with minimum temperatures also markedly below normal, ranging from 18°C to 20°C. A fresh Western Disturbance is anticipated to affect the Western Himalayan Region starting May 10th.
