India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Saturday, August 22, predicting heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds across 17 states. These conditions are expected to bring wind speeds of up to 70 kmph, potentially causing falling trees and waterlogging. Hilly regions are at a heightened risk of landslides due to the forecast.
The alert encompasses states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Assam. Several of these areas may also experience lightning. Delhi and its surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) are preparing for light to moderate rain, particularly in the evening, with temperatures around 34°C maximum and 27°C minimum.
States like Bihar, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, and West Bengal are bracing for significant rainfall and gusty winds. Cities including Patna, Jaipur, Shimla, and Kolkata are under specific weather advisories.
