India braces for dual weather threat: Fog and Storms!
15 Dec
Summary
- Easterly wave to bring thunderstorms to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
- Western disturbances to cause fog and snow in North India.
- Night temperatures to fluctuate across several Indian regions.

An easterly wave is poised to bring thunderstorms and lightning to Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal over the next two days. This weather system is primarily heading towards Sri Lanka, with its influence extending to southeastern Tamil Nadu. Concurrently, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands may experience gusty winds of up to 40 km/h for three days.
In the north, western disturbances will usher in light rainfall or snowfall across Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh for four days starting Thursday, and over Himachal Pradesh on Saturday and Sunday. The core fog season has intensified over North-West India, with visibility dropping to 50 meters in several areas. Very dense fog is predicted for Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and isolated pockets of North-East India.
Night temperatures are anticipated to dip by approximately 2°C over North-West India in the coming two days. Subsequently, a slight rise of 2-3°C is expected as fresh disturbances approach. Other regions like Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Central, East, and North-East India will likely see minimal temperature changes over the next seven days.
