India is experiencing a shift in weather patterns with the onset of the southwest monsoon. This monsoon system, which arrived slightly late, is now advancing across the southern peninsula, promising heavy rainfall and active weather conditions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued forecasts for substantial rainfall across Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu throughout the upcoming week. The northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya, are also bracing for heavy to very heavy downpours.
In contrast, northwestern and central India are anticipating a more volatile weather scenario. This includes thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong gusty winds of up to 60 kmph. Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh are among the regions expected to be affected.
While the southern and northeastern parts of the country will receive significant rainfall, parts of northern and central India might experience heatwave conditions. The IMD has warned of potential heatwaves developing in isolated parts of Bihar from June 6, extending to eastern Uttar Pradesh from June 7.
