Monsoon Arrives: India Braces for Rain, Thunderstorms

The monsoon season has begun across India, with the southwest monsoon advancing from Kerala. Over the next few days, it is expected to cover Goa, parts of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and the Northeast. Widespread rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds are forecast for Friday across southern and northeastern India.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted for Kerala and Coastal Karnataka, while Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh will see widespread rain with thunderstorms. The Northeast is also bracing for a wet spell, with heavy rain expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
In north and central India, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and winds up to 60 kmph are likely over Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Delhi can expect cloudy skies with two spells of rain and thunderstorms. While no heatwave is forecast for today, conditions may develop in isolated parts of Bihar from June 6 and spread to eastern Uttar Pradesh from June 7.
