A powerful depression over the Bay of Bengal is strengthening and poised to make landfall along the north Andhra Pradesh-South Odisha coast between Wednesday night and early Thursday. This system is forecast to bring widespread heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are particularly vulnerable to extremely heavy showers as the depression approaches.
Eastern India will also experience significant weather changes, with Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha anticipating continuous wet conditions, and Jharkhand likely to see heavy rain. Further north, Assam and Meghalaya are expected to receive widespread rain with isolated heavy showers. Maharashtra's Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada regions will also face heavy showers and thunderstorms.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for a low to moderate risk of flash floods in several districts of Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh due to potentially saturated ground conditions. Meanwhile, Delhi is expected to have clear weather with temperatures ranging from 23°C to 36°C. The Bay of Bengal will remain rough to very rough, prompting advisories for fishermen to avoid the affected sea areas until September 24.
