UK Blooms After Hottest February Day Since 2019!
26 Feb
Summary
- London recorded 18.6C, the warmest February day since 2019.
- Warmer weather prompts an expected 'explosion of colour' in gardens.
- Despite mild forecasts, cooler winds and rain are anticipated soon.

Temperatures in London reached a remarkable 18.6C at Kew Gardens on Wednesday, establishing it as the hottest February day recorded since 2019. Other areas across Kent and Suffolk also experienced readings above 18C, with some locations even surpassing temperatures found in Spain and Malta. This welcome warmth follows a period of exceptionally wet weather earlier in the year.
Looking ahead, a change in conditions is expected from Thursday, with forecasters predicting cooler temperatures and increased wind. These westerly winds may bring cloud and rain to most regions of the UK. Despite this shift, temperatures are expected to remain generally above average for this time of year.
The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) anticipates a beautiful display of spring flowers, with plants like daffodils and camellias already showing early blooms due to the mild weather. Garden experts predict a "welcome explosion of colour and new life" over the coming fortnight. However, concerns about groundwater flooding persist in some areas due to previous heavy rainfall.
