Himachal Pradesh is currently experiencing its first significant snowfall of the season, prompting a new warning from the India Meteorological Department. Widespread snowfall and rainfall are anticipated to continue through the weekend, potentially disrupting normal life across the state.
As of January 26, 2026, a total of 685 roads have been reported blocked statewide, with Lahaul and Spiti being the most affected. A strong western disturbance is active over the region, expected to bring more intense precipitation between January 26 and 28. The Himachal Pradesh government has issued a statewide advisory, urging residents and travelers to exercise caution.
In Manali and its surrounding areas, travel restrictions have been intensified. Due to extremely poor visibility and hazardous icy road conditions, residents are advised to avoid non-essential movement. Only 4x4 vehicles are permitted for necessary travel, and the road from Kullu towards Manali has been declared unsafe, with traffic being halted at Patlikuhal.
