Himachal Pradesh, a northern Indian state, has just recorded its wettest October in two decades. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the state received 68.5 mm of rainfall in October 2025, which is 173% above the normal average of 25.1 mm.
This October rainfall was the 14th-highest since 1901, and the highest since 2005. The all-time record for October rainfall in Himachal Pradesh remains 413.5 mm, set in 1955.
The districts that received the highest precipitation were Sirmaur (96.9 mm), Kangra (95.4 mm), and Solan (93.7 mm). Notably, Bilaspur registered the highest positive deviation from normal rainfall at 613%, while Kinnaur had the lowest at 66%.
The heavy rainfall was concentrated mainly in the first week of October, with vigorous weather on the 7th and 8th. Extremely heavy rainfall was recorded in Naina Devi (132.6 mm) and Solan (119.6 mm). Other areas, such as Wangtoo, Kheri, Pachhad, and Kasauli, also experienced heavy downpours.
Looking ahead, the IMD forecasts light rain or snow at isolated places on November 4 and 5, while dry weather is expected to prevail across the state for the rest of the week.
