Hawaii Weather: Holiday Weekend Tradewinds Ahead
3 Jul
Summary
- Hawaii expects typical tradewind weather through the holiday weekend.
- Tropical Storm Douglas, weakening, poses no threat to the islands.
- Marine conditions will remain rough with a small craft advisory.
Hawaii anticipates a standard tradewind weather pattern for the upcoming Independence Day weekend. This forecast includes scattered showers in windward and mauka regions, alongside isolated afternoon showers in leeward areas. Marine conditions are expected to remain rough, prompting a small craft advisory.
Tropical Storm Douglas, which formed earlier this week, has been weakening over the open Pacific. As of Friday, it was forecast to become a remnant low and poses no direct threat or hazard to Hawaii. However, remnant tropical moisture from Douglas could drift westward into the islands later next week, potentially increasing shower activity.
Locally, dry air is expected to slightly reduce humidity levels. Tradewinds will ease briefly before strengthening again over the weekend. Across the islands, including Kauai, Oahu, and Maui County, expect mostly sunny days with scattered windward showers and isolated leeward afternoon showers. High temperatures will range from 84 to 89 degrees.
Marine forecasts indicate continued rough surf along east-facing shores through Friday, with a long-period south-southwest swell expected to boost surf Sunday into Monday. North shore surf will remain minimal, with a slight increase possible by Friday.
