Hainan, China's southern island province, is currently facing severe weather conditions due to a tropical depression over the South China Sea. Authorities have taken measures such as suspending classes in primary and secondary schools, kindergartens, and training institutions in affected cities like Wanning for one to two days, beginning Sunday.
Twenty-seven tourist attractions have also been closed as the region grapples with torrential rain. The Hainan Meteorological Service escalated its rainstorm warning to Level II, signifying a serious threat. In response, the provincial committee for disaster prevention, mitigation, and relief has elevated its flood and wind emergency response to Level II.
The tropical depression, located approximately 245 km west-southwest of Sanya on Sunday morning, carries maximum winds of 12 meters per second. It is projected to make landfall along Vietnam's central coast on Sunday afternoon or evening. Additionally, the Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration issued a blue alert for flash floods and a yellow alert for geological disaster risks in parts of southeastern Hainan.
