Average 4th of July Weekend Ahead for Grand Forks
3 Jul
Summary
- Holiday weekend weather in Grand Forks expected to be average.
- Temperatures will be in the 80s, possibly low 90s.
- Daily chances for showers and thunderstorms are possible.
Following a week that saw tornado watches and warnings, the Grand Forks region is set for a rather average Fourth of July holiday weekend. Meteorologist Carl Jones indicated that while some strong storms are possible, no significant weather events are anticipated.
Conditions are expected to be similar to the beginning of the week, with light winds and high temperatures in the 80s, potentially reaching the low 90s. An increase in humidity is expected, prompting advice for outdoor participants to stay hydrated and be mindful of the heat.
Daily chances for showers and thunderstorms persist throughout the weekend. The primary hazards associated with these storms include gusty winds reaching up to 50 miles per hour and small hail, ranging from pea to quarter-sized. This pattern is not unusual compared to earlier in the week.
On Monday, June 29, a tornado warning was issued for portions of northwestern Minnesota and northeastern North Dakota. The warning, which began shortly before 9 p.m., expired approximately 45 minutes later. Residents are reminded that "When thunder roars, go indoors."
