Florida Braces for Another Freeze: Cold Snap Returns
4 Feb
Summary
- Florida anticipates wind chills and low temperatures in the 20s and 30s.
- A previous cold snap damaged up to 10% of Florida's citrus crop.
- Many Florida cities set new record low temperatures recently.

A fresh wave of cold air is poised to bring wind chills and low temperatures into the 20s and 30s to parts of Florida as of Friday morning. This impending cold blast follows a recent multi-day freeze that established or matched record low temperatures across the state.
The recent cold stretch is projected to have caused significant damage, potentially destroying up to 10% of Florida's citrus crop. Temperatures reportedly dropped into the mid-20s in some orange groves, with damage occurring when lows remain at 28 degrees or below for four consecutive hours.
Numerous Florida cities have already experienced record-breaking cold during the past week. Meteorologists noted that Florida briefly registered colder temperatures than Iceland and Alaska. Forecasters indicate this new cold shot will be shorter-lived than the prior event, with a sustained warming trend anticipated for the following week.
Looking ahead, Florida is likely to experience above-average temperatures between February 11 and February 17. However, South Florida faces a slight chance of below-average temperatures between February 9 and February 13, while the Panhandle is expected to be warmer during that same period.
