Firefighters Warn Against Risky Heating Combo as Bitter Cold Looms

As a bitter cold front approaches the UK, firefighters are urging the public to exercise caution with their heating methods. According to the Met Office, temperatures are forecast to drop below freezing next week, with the potential for wintry hazards like snow and ice.
The Met Office deputy chief meteorologist, Dan Holley, stated that temperatures could dip as low as -7°C in some areas, with daytime highs struggling to reach double digits across the country. In response to this forecast, the Gloucestershire Fire Brigade has issued a strong warning about the risks of using hot water bottles in conjunction with electric blankets.
The fire and rescue service emphasized that this combination could be extremely dangerous, as "you could electrocute yourself." They advised the public to never use the two heating methods together, reiterating the advice on their website.
With the prospect of a significant cold snap on the horizon, the UK Health Security Agency has also issued a cold weather warning for parts of the Midlands and northern England starting on Monday. The Environment Agency has warned that flooding from recent storms will continue throughout the weekend, further exacerbating the challenging conditions.
