Parts of the Borderland were struck by heavy rain and thunderstorms on the evening of Sunday, June 14. The National Weather Service issued a flash flooding warning effective until 9:15 p.m. for El Paso, Sunland Park, and Santa Teresa. A severe thunderstorm warning was also in effect for the area extending east to Socorro until 8:00 p.m. This severe weather caused flooding in El Paso's Upper Valley early Sunday evening, inundating intersections in the Sunset neighborhood and impeding travel. Significant traffic disruptions occurred at the intersection of Sunland Park Drive and Doniphan Drive due to flooding. Heavy rainfall was reported across multiple locations, including Anthony, Las Cruces, and Northeast El Paso. The Texas Department of Transportation El Paso District alerted the public about flooded roadways and advised against driving into standing water.
