Dry Spell Continues as UK Braces for Unsettled Weather
17 Aug
Summary
- Dry weather to persist across most of UK
- Cooler temperatures in northern and eastern regions
- Potential for showers and thunderstorms in southwest

As of August 18th, 2025, the UK is bracing for continued dry weather following last week's heatwave. Parts of the country could see temperatures reach 27°C on Monday and Tuesday, but a northeasterly breeze will keep northern and eastern regions cooler, with temperatures only reaching the low-20s.
Some showers with the occasional rumble of thunder are expected to hit southwest England and south Wales on Monday and Tuesday, but most areas will remain dry throughout the week. However, wetter, windier, and more unsettled weather may move in from the Atlantic by Bank Holiday Monday.
Experts warn that climate change is driving more extreme weather conditions in the UK, worsening drought and dry spells. The continued dry spell comes after officials warned that England was suffering from "nationally significant" water shortfalls, despite rain in July.
The Met Office has stated that the recent heatwave has now ended, with temperatures expected to fall to 23°C to 24°C by Wednesday and Thursday. However, the temperatures could push back up to the high-20s by the weekend, particularly during sunny spells, as the winds turn southerly.
