Metro Detroit is bracing for extreme heat and humidity following Tuesday's severe weather, which included tornadoes and caused disruptions at the airport and a Tigers game.
The National Weather Service predicts high temperatures may reach 94 degrees on Wednesday, with the heat index feeling like 100 degrees due to humidity. A heat advisory is active for Lenawee, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Additional storms are anticipated Wednesday evening and overnight, carrying a marginal risk of severe weather. Threats include isolated damaging winds up to 60 mph, large hail, and a potential brief tornado.
Thursday is expected to bring a repeat of Wednesday's heat and humidity, with highs near 94 degrees. There's also a chance of severe thunderstorms Thursday evening as a cold front approaches.
Temperatures are forecast to drop to 86 degrees with less humidity on Friday as a cold front moves through. A second cold front is expected Saturday night, leading to cooler temperatures in the 70s by Sunday and early next week.
In the aftermath of Tuesday's storms, some residents experienced power outages, with hundreds of customers from DTE Energy and Consumers Energy affected. Road closures due to flooding also occurred, including on I-75 in Detroit.
